Salt Lake City

I've been to Salt Lake City twice, both times to attend professional meetings (2017 and 2021). Salt Lake City is all about Mormons. The convention center is located near Temple Square. The temple is the centerpieces of the 10-acre temple square. It took 40 years to construct and is considered sacred. There are no public tours. Temple Square is currently being renovated to withstand earthquakes.

Marylanders who attended the NACAA meeting 

Salt Lake City is a great base to visit Utah's "Big Five" national parks:  Arches, Canyonlands, Capital Reef, Zion, and Bryce. There are also a lot of state parks worth visiting.
