Ólafsvík: a small fishing village on the peninsula

September 20, 2025 -- Ólafsvík is small fishing village on the northern side of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula in Iceland. We stayed there one night. Our guest house (hostel) was along the water (North Atlantic). We arrived when the sun was going down. We walked around the town (pop. 1,100) a bit the next morning before continuing our journey on the Ring Road.

The most  noteworthy landmark in the town was the white "modern-looking church (Ólafsvíkurkirkja)  against the backdrop of the mountains.  It was built to resemble a ship. There was a rainbow street near the church and a kissing bench. There are several rainbow roads in Iceland. Iceland is very LGBTQ+ friendly. Kudos to Iceland for being so supportive and inclusive.
