Taking a bath in nature

September 17, 2025 -- Iceland is known for pools, geothermal pools powered by geological activity beneath the earth's surface. The Blue Lagoon is one of Iceland's most popular tourist attractions. We chose a quieter, less touristy option: Mývatn Nature Baths (Jarðböðin) in North Iceland near Lake Mývatn.

So warm, so comforting:  I'm never getting out!

There were two pools. We tried both. According to the web site, the water temperatures were between 96.8 and 104°F. The smaller pool wasn't as hot. The outside air was very cool. It snowed while we were there. Just flurries. The sun was also setting. It was very picturesque. Very surreal. Getting in and out of the pools was a chilly endeavor. You had to take a shower before getting into the pool. The locker room reminded me of middle school. We had brought quick dry towels with us. I must have left mine because I never saw it again.
