Log Slide Overlook

October 19, 2025 -- The Log Slide Overlook is along Lake Superior. It is part of the Picture Rocks National Lakeshore in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The area is also part of the Grand Sable Dunes. The nearest town is Grand Marais.

Years ago, loggers built a long wooden chute on the dune slope to slide logs into lake Superior for transport. The chute is long gone.  The views from the top of the log slide vista were breathtaking. The Au Sable Lighthouse could be seen off in the distance. The Grand Sable Banks and Dunes could be seen off to the right.

Me atop dune (no Ty)

Dogs weren't allowed on the trail or nearby dunes. At first I was disappointed, but when I climbed to the top of the dune, it was so windy that I was glad I didn't have Ty with me. He was fine waiting in the car.
