September 14, 2025 -- Reynisfjara is a world-famous black-sand beach found on the South Coast of Iceland. It features basalt columns and dramatic sea stacks. It is beside Vik, the southernmost village on the mainland of Iceland.
Black sand is created when lava flows into the ocean, cools rapidly, and then is eroded over time into fine, dark sand. There are about 20 to 30 black sand beaches in the world. They are found in countries where there is volcanic activity, like Iceland
