The fun castle

Our 4th day was another day in Northern Ireland. We visited Carrickfergus Castle (a personal favorite), Dark Hedges, and the Giant's Causeway. Carrickfergus is the only preserved castle of its age open to the public. The castle contains numerous historical exhibits, including cannons from the 17th through 19th centuries.

Carrickfergus Castle is a well-preserved Norman castle. It was built in 1177 and played an important military role until 1928. During the first world war, it served as a garrison, and during WWII was a bomb shelter. During the American Revolution, John Paul Jones attempted to capture a British ship moored at Carrickfergus. Prince William holds the title of Baron Carrickfergus.

There was a room with "props" where visitors can take pictures wearing medieval attire (mostly hats and helmets) and sporting medieval weapons. Lara and I took advantage of this and got silly with our picture-taking.

Lara and I got silly at the castle.

Time for a feast!
