Belfast Titanic was one of the best museums I've ever been to. It is located on the site of the former Harland & Wolff shipyard where the RMS Titanic was built. We spent several hours at the museum. It was a self-guided tour. Since the Titanic was built in Belfast, the museum focuses a lot on Belfast and construction of the ship. But it also has plenty of exhibits and galleries pertaining to other aspects of the ship's place in history, including its discovery and salvage.
Original artifacts included one of only six deck chairs to survive the sinking and a violin reputedly played by the ship's bandmaster. Outside you can walk on the slipway where the Titanic was launched. All in all, it was an awesome experience. The museum should be on the bucket list of any Titanic enthusiast. If I ever visit Belfast again, I'd like to stay at the Titanic Hotel, which is located in the former headquarters of Harland & Wolff.
The SS Nomadic is the last remaining ship of the White Star Line. I was disappointed that we didn't get to tour it. It was closed by the time we left the Titanic Museum. The SS Nomadic was the tender to the Titanic. It transferred passengers to and from the ocean liner. The Nomadic was designed by Thomas Andrews, one of the designers of the Titanic. She is one quarter the size of the Titanic. She saw service in both world wars and was returned to Belfast in 2006.
