Circa 1943 to 1945
Interrogation building
The camp served a variety of purposes before becoming a POW camp. It was originally settled as a farm and was used by the iron industry. It became a CCC camp in 1933 and was acquired by the War Department in December 1942. It served as a facility for initial interrogation and identifying high value prisoners. Approximately 7500 German and 161 Japanese POWs passed through the camp.
I'd like to go back to the camp (with Ty) and spend more time exploring the ruins and learning about its place in WWII history.
