The Terracotta Army

Another highlight from my first trip to China was visiting the museum of the Terracotta Warriors and Horses. The Terracotta Army is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China. They were meant to protect him in the afterlife. They date back over 2000 years. Each soldier has incredible detail.

Fragments of the soldiers were first discovered in 1974 by farmers digging a well. I recently watched a Netflix series about the Terracotta army. Scientists are still trying to figure out why all the sculptures were broken into pieces. This great archeological site continues to evolve, even until this day.
