The Great Wall

The Great Hall of China is a ancient series of walls and fortifications built around 500 years ago. Estimates of its length vary, but it covers many, many provinces. The best known sections of the wall were built by the Ming Dynasty. Some sections of the wall have been preserved, whereas in other sections, the wall is in disrepair.

I visited the Great Wall both times I visited China. In 2008, I visited the Mutianyu section of the wall. In 2018, I visited the Badaling section. Whichever section you visit, expect do a lot of walking and climbing (steps). The Great Wall ranks up there (with the pyramids) in terms of amazing places I have visited.

In 2008 - Mutianyu section

Not a "wall," but a series of fortifications

Over 13,000 miles

Would take 17-18 months to walk

Took over 2000 years to construct

Largest manmade object in the world

In 2018 - Badaling section

Millions died building it.

Dates back to 7th century BC

Cable cars and chair lifts take you to the top.
