To the West
Endless black beach
Dyrholaey’s most recognizable attraction is its massive rock arch, a result of centuries of erosion. When the sea is calm, ships can sail through it. Someone even flew a small engine plane through it. It is 394 feet high and shaped like an arch.
Dyrhólaey lighthouse is a castle-shaped lighthouse. It was established in 1912. The present lighthouse was built in 1927. It is still operational. The light flashes white every 10 seconds. It is has the most light power of any lighthouse in Iceland.
