Dwarf Rocks

September 15, 2025 -- Dwarf Rocks or Cliffs (Dverghamrar) was a short stop. They are another unique geological formation in South Iceland. They feature hexagonal basalt columns (similar to Reynisfjara) formed by cooling lava and shaped by the ocean. The formations probably date back to the Ice Age. So cool! No pun intended.

Where the hidden people dwell

According to local folklore, the name "Dverghamrar" (Dwarf Rocks) comes from the belief that the cliffs are inhabited by hidden people like dwarfs and elves. One story tells of a woman who heard a hymn near the rocks and, after searching, realized the singing was coming from the cliffs themselves, reinforcing the belief that dwarfs lived there.
