Turning Point of the Civil War

Gettysburg is a favorite place to visit. I/we have been there many times. There's so much to see. So much to learn about this important part of American history. Sometimes, we just drive around the battlefield. Sometimes, we go to the visitor's center.

The three day battle of Gettysburg is considered the turning point of the American Civil War. Major General George Meade's Army of the Potomac repelled General Robert E. Lee's Army of Virginia, thereby preventing the South's invasion of the north. The battle was the bloodiest of the war and claimed 50,000 casualties. Several months after the battle, President Abraham Lincoln delivered his famous "Gettysburg Address."
