Not far from Cobh was Kindred Spirits, a large steel sculpture built to thank the Native American Choctaw people for their kindness and generosity during the Great Irish Famine. Despite suffering their own oppression, the Choctaw made a donation to Irish Famine Relief (in 1947). This created a bond between both peoples who continue to work together.
The feather sculpture was unveiled and dedicated in 2017. A delegation from the Choctaw Nation was on-hand for the ceremony.
