Dead Horse Point State Park

Dead Horse Point State Park is located adjacent to Canyonlands National Park. It features a dramatic overlook of the Colorado River and Canyonlands National Park. The view is similar to that of the Grand Canyon. The park includes 5,300 acres and is in the high desert (5,900 feet).

Established 1959

A natural corral

According to legend, the park gets its unique name because of its use as a natural corral by cowboys in the 19th century, where horses often died of exposure. Many movies have been filmed at Dead Horse State Park, including the final canyon scene of Thelma and Louise. We went early to this park for the views. It's a park that should be on everyone's Utah itinerary.
