Hog Rock is Catoctin Mountain Park's highest elevation overlook at 1610 feet. Not sure how it got its name. The rock didn't look anything like a hog. Along the trail, there are signs that identify trees. The elevation of Blue Ridge Summit is 1590 feet.
While technically not a national park, Catoctin Mountain Park is managed by the National Park Service. For obvious reasons. The area was drafted into the World War II effort. It served many functions. Eventually, Camp David was established in Catoctin Mountain Park. Camp David is a 125-acre country retreat for the President. The parking lot for the Hog Rock trail isn't far from Camp David. Don't get lost!
