The Columbia Icefield is the largest ice field in North America's Rocky Mountains. It is located within the Canadian Rocky Mountains along the Continental Divide on the border of British Columbia and Alberta. An icefield is not a single glacier. It is massive network of glaciers.
The ice field lies partly in the northwestern tip of Banff National Park and partly in the southern end of Jasper National Park. It is about 125 square miles in area, 328 to 1,198 feet in depth and receives 280 inches of snowfall per year. Like other glaciers, it is receding due to the warmer climate.

I stopped at the Columbia Icefield when I was driving the Icefields Parkway in Jasper National Park. I walked to the icefield.
