Kruger National Park

May 2015 -- Kruger National Park is one of the largest game reserves in Africa. It is named after Paul Kruger, a political and military figure of 19th century South Africa. There are mixed opinions about Kruger.  Black Africans certainly don't like him. However, there is a monument to him at the Kruger gate, and this is where we entered the park.

Our van: I was always in the back.

Our accommodations were quite nice. We each had our own hut. Food at the game park was really good. I recall having to find our accommodations in the dark. I didn't have a flashlight. There weren't any lights. There were several "avenues" of lodges.

A unique part of Kruger National Park is Little Heroes' Acre. It is a dog graveyard, where dogs faithful to the park are laid to rest. Each grave marks the resting place of a canine companion that played a role in protecting the park’s wildlife and aiding in anti-poaching efforts.

Like any national park, there have been fatalities at Kruger National Park. Many of the fatalities are unrelated to the animals. But some are the result of encounters with the wild beasts. stampedes and attacks. When we were there, I remember hearing that baboons would came into the park and steal babies. Fact or fiction?
