One of the highlights of our 1991 trip to Europe (Mom and I) was the Sound of Music tour in Salzburg, Austria. It was cool to see all the places where the movie was filmed and to learn about discrepancies between the movie and the real Trappe family and story. For example: how the mountain they climbed at the end of the movie, led to Nazi Germany! The differences didn't matter. After all these years, it is still my favorite movie. Sadly many of the cast have passed away. Of course, it is 60 year old movie. As of this writing, Julie Andrews is 90!

The real Trappe family settled in Stowe, Vermont, where they still run a
lodge. Their escape from Germany was far less dramatic than what was depicted in the movie. The Captain and Marie married for practicality more than affection. They were portrayed differently in the movie than they were in real life. The Captain was softer. Marie was firmer.
