The Badlands

The Badlands was one of the first national parks I visited. I went in 1985 during a cross-country trip with a friend from college (Rachel P.; RIP). We drove the loop road. I recall it being a very eerie place. Part of the park was an Indian reservation. I felt like we shouldn't be there.

The Badlands was originally established as a national monument. It did not become a national park until 1978. Dances with Wolves was partially filmed in Badlands National Park. My farm is sort of named after the park:  the Baalands.
