Traveling by ferry

My trip to the Highlands included several islands; thus, several ferry crossings. The first islands we visited were Mull and Iona.  We boarded a ferry in Oban. It took 45 to 50 minutes to get to the Isle of Mull. To get to Iona, we had to take another ferry, out of Fionnphort on the southwest tip of Mull. This second crossing only took about 10 minutes.

The second half of the tour included two days in Orkney. To get there, we took a ferry from Gill's Bay  (on the Scottish mainland) to St. Margaret's Hope (on South Ronaldsay). The crossing took 1 hour and 10 minutes. This ferry was much choppier than the one we took to Mull/Iona, especially the way back. In fact, when we went back to the mainland, we took the last ferry of the day. Heavy winds were predicted so the rest of the ferries that day were cancelled.

To get to the Isle of Skye, we either took the Glenelg-Skye Ferry or the Skye Bridge.
