Welcome to Kirkwall

Kirkwall is the capital and largest town of the Orkney Islands off the north coast of Scotland. Its name is derived from the Old Norse word Kirkjuvagr, meaning "church bay". Kirkwall is known for its cathedral and palaces. It also has a commercial harbor.

Kirkwall was our base for exploring Orkney. We spent two nights there. I had a hotel close to the waterfront. We had ample time to explore town, though many things were closed when we returned for the evening. We had a group dinner (5 of us) one night and I had pizza on my own the second night. I enjoyed exploring the harbor.
