In 1993, I served a six month assignment (Jan-July) in Jelenia Góra, Poland. I lived in five different places. My housemates were my partner Phil and our translators, the two Annas. After a few months, Phil's wife, Phyllis joined us and completed our Polish "family."
At the guest house, meals were provided. They were so-so. When we were staying in the palace, we had to eat out. We kept things cold by putting them outside the window. When we lived in the villa and other houses, we were able to prepare our own meals. Phil and Anna T. cooked, while Anna M. and I did the dishes. Pork, potatoes, and carrots were common fare. We shopped for food almost every day. You had to get things when you saw them. We still ate out a good bit, too. I generally liked Polish food. There were many good restaurants in our area and I had many favorite foods.
