September 23, 2023 -- Hore Abbey is a ruined Cistercian monastery near the Rock of Cashel. It was founded in 1272 and is fashioned in gothic style. There is a nice view of the Rock of Cashel from the abbey and vice versa. The abbey is pure ruins, with grass growing out of the stones. It seemed like it would be a fun place for kids to play, especially at Halloween. I enjoyed meandering around the ruins.

Hey, this is a cool place.
Hore Abbey's last occupation was in 1540. After that King Henry VIII dissolved monasteries for financial and political reasons. The abbey was later used as a parish church, then private residence, before falling into total ruin.
