July 19, 2023 -- On our way back from Raystown Lake (PA), Mom and I stopped in Rockhill Furnace and took a train ride. East Broad Top Railroad is one of the nation's oldest and best-preserved narrow-gauge railroads. It operated from 1871 to 1956. It is the only surviving three-foot gauge common carrier railroad east of the Rocky Mountains.
The train ride was pleasant, not very long as I recall. It was an up and back ride. The scenery was nice, but not dramatic. Mostly farmland. It was something different to do. I'm glad we did it. Dad would have liked it. He liked trains.
