Precision sheep farming

December 11, 2016 -- The primary goal of my 2016 sabbatical was to learn more about precision sheep farming. No where did I learn more than the Rosebank Farm near Gore in the southernmost province of New Zealand. This farm used RFID and had all the latest equipment.

Farm IQ is a farm management system.

Focus Genetics is a performance recording company.

She knew her stuff!

The sheep conveyor moves and restrains sheep along a race at a speed pre-determined by the operator. RFID can be used to match lambs with ewes and determine maternal parentage by tracking movements of ewes and lambs through a "parenting" gate.

Wool, too.

Every farm has dog kennels.
