First trip to Brazil

October 1, 2003 -- I've made three trips to Brazil. The first trip was in 2003. I was asked to speak at a sheep and goat conference. My topic was "Sheep and Goat Production in the Caribbean." Outside of the conference, I went to a fair and sheep sale. I was introduced to the Santa Inês breed of sheep. I also saw  my first Savanna goats.

The Santa Inês is a Brazilian breed of hair sheep. The are the principle hair sheep in Brazil. They are known for the natural resistance to gastrointestinal parasites (worms). We do not have the breed in the US. They are a very attractive breed, with slick brown or black coats. Some have spotted patterns.
