Steinbeck's Monterey

In 2001, I attended the American Sheep Industry Convention in Reno, Nevada. Mom came along. After the meeting, we drove to Lake Tahoe, San Francisco, and Monterey. After that, we flew to Phoenix to see Aunt Ginny (RIP, 2025).

At one time, Monterey had a thriving fishing and cannery industry. It was immortalized by the John Steinbeck novel, "Cannery Road" (I've never read it). Now it's a bustling hub of tourism. San Carlos Beach is located at the west end of Canary Road. It is famous for its massive influx of sea lions and harbor sea. There are plenty of them basking on the rocks on the day of our visit.

My dog's name was Sly, so I liked the sign.
