Bass Harbor Lighthouse

September 2024 --  Bass Harbor Lighthouse is the only lighthouse on Mount Desert Island. It is frequently featured on pictures of Acadia National Park. It is located in the southwest portion of the island. The lighthouse was built in 1858, and is one of 65 lighthouses in Maine. It is the 5th busiest destination in the park. Fortunately, I was able to find parking.

There was a paved walkway that led to the lighthouse. The lighthouse is perched on the rocks above Blue Hill Bay. There was also a path that led down to the rocky shore (but no view of the lighthouse). I took Ty on both. The cliff hike was steep, but worth it for the views it offered. (not sure Ty agreed).
