Venice of the North

August 2019 -- While we were at our conference in Ghent, we took a side trip to Bruges, once one of the world's most important commercial cities. Bruges is one of Europe's best preserved cities and a popular tourist destination with medieval buildings, cobbled streets, and canals.  Because of its canals, Bruges is sometimes called the "Venice of the North." One of the highlights of our visit to Bruges was a carriage ride through the streets. We also visited a neat museum that offered great views of the market square. We had waffles . . . again.
