June 2003 -- In 2003, I attended the annual meeting of the American Society of Animal Science in Phoenix, Arizona. My Aunt Ginny had recently relocated to Arizona, so I visited her. I took her on a day trip to Sedona.
Sedona is a desert town near Flagstaff. It is surrounded by red-rock buttes, steep canyon walls, and pine forests. The rock formations are formed by dark red sandstone. The color is due to the presence of hematite -- iron-oxide (or rust).
I would have loved more time to explore the area and its unique red rock formations. The scenery was breath-taking. Aunt Ginny seemed to enjoy it.
